Southhaven Police Officers looking to serve a warrant for Samuel Pearman arrived at the wrong house before eventually killing a man with no warrants, Ismael Lopez.
Lopez and his wife were both asleep in their bed when officers arrived at the house across the street from Pearman.
Since The Lopez Family has hired attorney Murray Wells to represent the case.
“Someone didn’t take the time to analyze the address,” Wells said. “This is incredibly tragic and embarrassing to this police department that they can’t read numbers”
According to the Desoto County District Attorney John Champion, when the 2 officers arrived on the scene a pit bull burst out the front door prompting the officers to shot at it. Lopez then pointed the gun at officers through an open door who told him to down the gun repeatedly before opening fire.
The Lopez Family is disputing the claim that Lopez brandish a gun claiming that although he is a gun owner he didn’t have one on him when the police shot him.
Lopez’s neighbors also claimed they didn’t hear any yelling or officers telling Lopez to put the gun down before he was shot.
Wells has stated that his legal team will conduct their own investigation into what happened. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations is handling the case.
